Basically, you set up your page, send CDBaby a few copies of your cd, and sit back while CDBaby acts as an online store for your music and gets your music to places that you ordinarily could not access: itunes, rhapsody, napster and amazon.com and any place else where the big bands are selling. They take care of the work, notify when stock is low, and send you the checks (or Paypal), along with notifications when you make salse including detailed info about the customer. Also, Derek has tons of pages of tips from his years of personal experience on how to promote and generally be more efficient within the music business. The only downside is that it can take several months for your tracks to be send out and verified by all of the mp3 vendors (though, this isn't the fault of CDBaby; it's just a lengthy process).
